£40,000.00 For Shoes

Back to Case Studies

We have recently concluded a personal injury compensation claim for a young man who suffered a broken leg in a road traffic accident.   Our client required 2 operations to unite the fracture in his leg and, although he eventually made a good recovery, he was left with one leg 3 centimetres shorter that the other.

Whilst a further operation to lengthen our client’s injured leg was a possibility, it was agreed that the safest way of addressing the leg inequality and subsequent gait problems was for our client to wear modified shoes with specialised shoe raises.   Our personal injury solicitor obtained podiatrist evidence on which to base a claim for a figure of just under £40,000.00 for the cost of providing the modified shoes and shoe raises for the remainder of our client’s life.   Whilst this figure was very much disputed by the Defendant’s solicitors we were able to recover a substantial percentage of it when negotiating and agreed settlement of £155,000.00 for the claim.
