Compensation Claim Against Employer

Back to Case Studies

Our client was employed as a glass cutter. The job involved moving heavy, fully laden trolleys from the production area to the grinding area which was often too much for one person to manage alone. No training had been provided by the employer.

In June 2004 a colleague with whom he had been working, loaded one of the trolleys with a large sheet of glass. However he failed to secure it. As our client pulled the trolley towards the grinding area, the sheet of glass fell towards him striking the right side of his neck, ear, shoulder and leg. He consequently required 52 stitches and was off work for one month.

The employer denied liability for the accident and we therefore issued court proceedings. Shortly after issuing the claim with the court the employer put forward an offer of settlement. Eventually settlement was agreed and our client received £7,500 for his injuries without having to attend a court hearing.
