Law Firm Supports Charity Triathalon
Independent neurological centre, Glenside, is helping its patients complete a triathlon to help raise funds for three charities.
26 patients at the centre in South Newton have chosen to take part in the triathlon, which is being co-ordinated by the Physiotherapy Department. To mark the start of the triathlon, further support was provided by solicitors from leading personal injury law firm Moore Blatch Resolve, who provided t-shirts for all of the patients completing the triathlon.
Glenside provides medical care and rehabilitation services to adults who are living with severe physical, cognitive or behavioural impairments resulting from long-term neurological conditions, including acquired or traumatic brain injury. Due to the differing physical abilities that each participant has, there is not a set distance for each discipline and the triathlon will take place over three days during February and March.
The cycling will be completed in half-hour blocks on either an exercise bike or a specialist MotorMed bike that allows patients to pedal whilst seated in a wheelchair. Swimming will be undertaken in the impressive hydrotherapy pool and the final stage, a walk, will take place around a pre-marked short course in the grounds of Glenside’s picturesque eight acre campus.
Members of the centre’s ten-strong Physiotherapy Team will be on-hand through the event to support patients with their physical needs in completing each stage as well as providing the odd bit of encouragement!
Glenside’s Lead Physiotherapist, Gerry Harlow, said: “Charity events are a regular occurrence here at Glenside. Not only is the triathlon an excellent way to give patients a goal to work towards as part of their rehabilitation programme, this event will also raise funds for charities that help those with neurological conditions”.
Solicitors from law firm Moore Blatch Resolve, which has been a long-term supporter of Glenside and the work it does, were also on hand to offer encouragement and support.
Ciaran McCabe, a specialist brain injury solicitor at Moore Blatch Resolve, said: “We are pleased to support the excellent efforts of the patients at Glenside. As a law firm which represents and works with people who have been affected by brain injury and disorders we realise the critical role excellent rehabilitation plays in the recovery of our clients. We’re delighted we are able to assist in making the event a success.”
The three charities being supported are: Headway – The Brain Injury Association, The Stroke Association and CLIC Sargent (Children’s Cancer).
