Lift Accident
The claimant sustained injuries when the lift she was in at college malfunctioned and dropped several floors. She suffered whiplash injuries and an understandable psychological reaction. The college subsequently closed that campus. The college's insurers denied liability for the incident and a claim was then brought against the company responsible for maintenance of the lift. Their insurers were unable to produce a complete maintenance and inspection schedule and eventually admitted liability and settled the claim before court proceedings were issued.
